Attorney Rodkey Sues Petco; Failure to Warn: Tropical Fish Tanks and Salmonella

While the CDC and others, including the American Veterinary Medical Association have reported the on the risk of contracting multidrug resistant Salmonella several years ago, it seems major U.S. pet stores ignored the data and have failed to warn consumers of the hazard. See CDC Emerging Infectious Diseases and AVMA Article. Attorney Rodkey has brought suit against Petco Animal Supplies Stores, Inc. in the United States Federal Court for the Northern District of Ohio at case No. 1:09 CV 1781 after two persons fell seriously ill and were hospitalized having contracted the multidrug-resistant strain of Salmonella within days of purchasing a fish tank, accessories and tropical fish from a Petco store outside Cleveland, OH that provided absolutely no warning whatsoever of any danger or hazard of Salmonella and tropical fish and fish tanks. According to the AVMA article cited above, this is very much a “public health issue.”
